Today’s blog will be a work complaint. I didn’t want to, but it seemed like a good topic for the day.
If you want to call me on the phone, fine, I understand. If I don’t pick up and you decide to leave a message, again, fine, that’s what you are supposed to do. However, if you are going to call me, and leave me a message that says, “I am going to email you”, DON’T LEAVE THE MESSAGE! Just send me the email. In fact, don’t even bother wasting time calling me, just email me. I respond to emails quicker than I do the annoying blinking light on top of my work phone. I’ve been known to ignore that blinking light for weeks. I admit, not very professional, but emails get responses almost immediately.
With what has been happening at work these last few days, thanks to the furlough, I have been living on the phone. The contractors have been sent home, and suddenly all of my project leaders need to talk to me. I tried to give them a warning, but now they are all seeing what I meant when I told them MITRE would be sent home if I didn’t have money and all of the contractual documents. It was so bad, that while I was calling people back, more people would call in and leave more messages. It was a never-ending cycle.
Of the 40 projects I manage, only two are open right now. I expect another project to open tomorrow, and maybe a few more in a couple of days. Small amount of money is starting to trickle in. People will be back on the job, even if only for a short time.
